ScoreCanvas /hold interactive hold music

Hold music, interactified.

The caller starts on the Driftin' pack's exploration cue, at native tempo. The keypad adds percussion, a melody, a bass pedal, the stealth cue, their own words, or a tune they whistle. Every change lands on the beat, and every added note comes from the cue's own scale.

The phone on this page runs the same engine as the phone line. Pick up, then press 3.

The score

The caller acts. The music reacts.

This is a ScoreCanvas graph with a telephone keypad where the game used to be. Nodes light up as you play the phone above.

No silence, ever

The bed is a floor. Layers enter on the next beat, scene changes on the next bar, and the keypress itself gets an instant ping in key so the caller knows it registered.

Every exit gets a tag

When the agent answers, the loop hands off on the bar to the cue's own composed ending, and the agent lands on a finished phrase. A fade is an apology.

The voice is a guest

Music ducks 7 dB under speech in about 200 ms. Recurring lines come from shuffle bags, so the same sentence does not come back until every variant has played.

The music

The Driftin' pack, untouched.

No stretching and no re-pitching. Each full-length cue was beat-tracked, then cut on bar lines into its own intro, a two-minute loop and its own ending. The call opens on Exploration from the top. Key 4 moves between Exploration and Stealth on the bar line, with a one-beat overlap.

AI agents now place calls and wait on hold on behalf of people. The Robot Pack is hold music for them. It is three generative layers and it takes itself completely seriously.

Layer 1: Handshake

A modem negotiation resolves into a sixteenth-note square-wave arpeggio. Three-bit amplitude. No apology.

Layer 2: Compliance

Four on the floor, a clap on two and four, and a cowbell that has read the style guide.

Layer 3: Affirmations

“You are a valued process.” “Estimated wait: nine hundred tokens.” “Please do not hallucinate while holding.”

The serious half: one affirmation reads queue position and estimated wait in plain, parseable speech. A hold line that machine callers can understand is a real feature, and nobody offers it.
